This exercise can be used with an individual client or
in a small group – to increase understanding and perspective
of one’s own story as well as of other people’s story.
What are Journey Lines
They provide a framework to tell your story – usually a certain thread in your story, such as leadership or career or transformational markers, etc. Journey lines humanize our ups and downs and give others an opportunity to know us better. Journey Lines help teams learn more about one other. You can use this in your tribe or with a client group.
What goes on them? Anything you want to share.
• The timeline begins where you want it to... your childhood, college, first job, etc.
• The ups and downs can reflect when you’ve thrived vs. been challenged
• You could add images/pictures or just words
• The circles at the bottom of the journey line connect back to key takeaways and/or what is important to share about your
style, values (or other focus area – such as leadership philosophy)
Share on your journey what you want to share/the extent to which you’re comfortable
Note: You can give this as a pre-work assignment before a session or you can give space within a workshop to complete this
exercise before sharing.
